Great Place to Work® Awards

The European Great Place to Work® Award Dinner

A great workplace is one in which you "trust the people you work for, have pride in what you do, and enjoy the people you work with."

Great Place to Work® Institute proudly invites all the Best Workplaces in Europe and the UK 2008 to the annual European Great Place to Work® Award Dinner, where the companies will be recognized for their achievements. This year, the Best Workplaces in the UK and Europe will be announced at the same event.

The gala Award Dinner 2008 will be bigger and more prestigious than ever before and the event will take place at the National Maritime Museum in London. About 500 guests will celebrate the Best Workplaces and receive the Financial Times Best Workplaces special report ahead of the publication.

The annual European Great Place to Work® Special Awards are a distinctive way Great Place to Work® Institute (GPTW) recognizes the accomplishments of organizations that have implemented creative and effective approaches to developing trust, pride, and camaraderie within their unique workplaces. Each year, five “Best Workplaces” are honoured for exemplary best practices focused on one of the five dimensions of the Great Place to Work® Model©: Credibility, Respect, Fairness, Pride and Camaraderie.

This year, the Institute is pleased to announce and recognize five outstanding companies in the five categories described below. The award categories reflect the Institute’s unique employee-centred approach.

Awards will be presented during the Great Place to Work® Awards Ceremony on Tuesday, May 27. This event is exclusively attended by invitation.

2008 European Great Place to Work® Special Awards Categories

Credibility

Special Award: “I am told the truth”

People in this company practice honest and transparent two-way communication. Management in this company tells the truth also when it comes to bad news and challenging situations.

Respect

Special Award: “I am treated as a person”

In this category the award winning company excels in creating a caring workplace, where people’s private lives are fully respected and management pays a particular attention to people as persons. Fairness

Special Award: “I am paid fairly for the work I do”

The employees in the company winning this award will have a strong perception of getting a fair pay. They will not necessarily get the highest pay, but the company has made a true effort to ensure the fairness in the pay system.

Pride

Special Award: “This is not just a job”

Regardless of position and industry most employees in great workplaces feel a strong sense of pride for belonging to the company and the job that they do. The feeling of “this is not just a job” is a strong motivating driver for employees to make an extra effort to get the job done and clients served in the best way possible.

Camaraderie

Special Award: “We have fun”

In this category the award winning company shows that fun is part of creating a great workplace too. People are not machines and fun makes communication easier and raises the team spirit. It is “serious” fun, because fun is part of the corporate culture of this company and one of the reasons why they create great results.
